City Of Muse

An art piece that was inspired by an imaginary place in an art/story blog I'm working on. Mixed media collage.

The City of Muse is a place with an Asian/Victorian/Circus feel.

I'm more often than not a hermit who also poses as a jack of all trades. My art skills/interests are varied: papermaking, collage (digital and traditional), printmaking, and handmade crafts from recycled materials.

I can also paint, sew and draw but only if my patience is willing.

I'm trying to work on larger, more "serious" pieces, as most of my work is tiny and winds up on the inside of bottlecaps. ;)

My influences, even though I didn't realize I was being influenced, are Nick Bantock, and Joseph Cornell. I love surrealist/symbolist art.

I'm also working on a bizarre "art" story blog, which I do not yet have the courage to link here. Maybe in a bit.

My handmade craft website is:

and features images of all my smaller works: magnets, bookmarks, small collages, etc.

I hope to put more of my sketches and other works hiding in the closet on here. More soon!

Devious Journal Entry

Feeling more accomplished. Been staring at this box of granite flecked floor tiles for months now. My husband brought them home from his work- they were pitching them. They are gorgeous things, perfect for small collages, so I've decided I'm just going to do a series of them until they are gone.

The first of them, Serenity, broke the ice. It's vaguely inspired by the TV series and movie (nerd? me? never.) and more by the serenity prayer and my need to use all this asian paper I have.

Also have these little laminate samples that would make great little mini books- they have a hole in one end for a ribbon or ring to bind them. (once again, cast offs from husband's work)

Have a lot of things to cast in resin for upcoming fair at the end of the month.

It's a small local fair, but I did awesome last year, especially considering it's indoors during the nicer weather.

Been having bizarre dreams that have been fueling the creative fire, which had been doused for a bit. Strange little corset that I saw and was trying to draw in a dream, and had to try and draw this morning. Never mind the strange stereoscopic book of Sedlec Ossuary that I stepped into and was petting the skulls. As if I don't have enough skull knick-knacks around my own house to pet.

Enough prattle. I want to get to making use of those granite tiles.

  • Mood: Artistic
  • Listening to: the wind through the leaves
  • Reading: The Tempest when I get tired of art making
  • Eating: cereal is the plan
